Andrzej Gutek is a mathematician and an artist. He has published papers in different areas of mathematics, including Topology, Functional Analysis, and the relationship between Mathematics and Art. He spent the academic year 2000/2001 at the University of Dschang in Cameroon as a Fulbright scholar.
Andrzej is also a craftsman and a member of the Highland Rim Chapter of Tennessee Association of Craft Artists. He is a co-author, with Carol Ventura, of two articles about the crafts of Cameroon.

In the summer of 2006 Andrzej participated in a week long "Maya Mathematics" course in Guatemala. The presenters were Christopher Powell and Ed Barnhart, a director of Maya Exploration Center.

In the summer of 2007 Andrzej participated in a week long "Inca Mathematics" workshop in Peru. Participants learned about khipu, visited Cusco and Sacsayhuaman, as well as Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. In the summer of 2008 he visited the lake Titicaca region, including Tiahuanaco and the Island of the Sun.

Carol Ventura has very interesting books about Maya backstrap weaving and tapestry crochet in Guatemala
Proyecto Lingüístico Francisco Marroquín, a language school in Antigua, publishes books and dictionaries of Maya languages. One can learn Spanish and several Maya languages there.
